"All relationships are about investments. We were talking about children — you have to find time to invest in that relationship. Otherwise you won’t have a good relationship.
Now, it’s similar in your relationship with Allah. If you don’t invest time to know Allah, to know his attributes, the Qur’an, the embodiment of the Islamic example in the Prophet s.a.w., whom we are supposed to love, of course — and when we say we love him, it’s not enough to pay lip service. It’s a bit like when we say to someone, we love them but we won’t make any sacrifices for them.
It’s the simple equation of saying: you get what you put in. If you just sort of take it for granted that the relationship is there — it’s like a lot of relationships: it will just fizzle out."
